A civil engineer by profession, VS Mukkhesh directed many short films before making his Tollywood debut with Market Mahalakshmi, which hit theatres last month. Buoyed by the audience’s response, the filmmaker is now planning to release it on OTT. “Three weeks since its release, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We believe an OTT release will help the film reach a wider audience,” says the filmmaker.
He adds, “I had worked with producer Akhilesh garu on a web series titled Afhireen earlier. Initially, I’d conceived Market Mahalakshmi as a web series. But Akhilesh garu felt that the film must have a theatrical release. I was very apprehensive as finding screens for small budget films isn’t easy. So we are thrilled with the thumbs-up the audience has given us.”
Akhilesh, an NRI based in the US, is thrilled that his maiden production vindicated his conviction. “As a newcomer to the industry, I’m thankful to have found a supportive team that offered valuable guidance on where to invest for the best outcome. My goal is to start from the ground up, working diligently towards my ultimate aspiration of directing a film one day,” he says.
