Our hearts rooted for them throughout the runtime and we always prayed for a happy ending. There was a time when the on-screen chemistry between a hero and the heroine was limited to dancing around the trees and then came the period where smooches and passionate love scenes were an essential ingredient in almost every other film.

However, times have changed and modern Telugu films are offering substantial roles for both heroes and heroines to prove their mettle. While the promos of Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story promise that Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi are all set to deliver an emotional ride, the gorgeous Pooja Hegde is romancing handsome hunk Prabhas in a period drama set in 1920s Paris. Take a look at some of the fresh pairings in Tollywood to look forward to in 2020-21.

Starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, the shooting of Love Story is proceeding at a rapid pace in Hyderabad and rural parts of Telangana. While the cast and crew have left to Dubai for the final schedule, the recently released promo of ‘Ay Pilla’ song on Valentine’s Day struck the right chord with the viewers. Chaitu is playing a Telangana guy in the Sekhar Kammula directorial and the 33-year-old is expected to speak the local dialect too. In Ay Pilla promo, his soul-stirring expression when Sai Pallavi kisses on his cheek out of the blue has hit the bull’s eye among the youth.

Vijay Deverakonda is teaming up with Puri Jagannadh for a new-age actioner tentatively titled as Fighter. Helmed as a multilingual, the shooting of the film recently flagged off in Mumbai with a marriage scene. Bollywood bombshell Ananya Pandey has been roped in as the leading lady opposite Vijay and this will be her debut in South cinema. The 21-year-old sexy siren is basking on the super success of her recent film Pati Patni Aur Who. As per latest reports, the title of the film has been changed from ‘Fighter’ to ‘Liger’ and it has been reportedly registered. Karan Johar is presenting the movie in Hindi through Dharma Productions.

SS Rajamouli surprised everyone by roping in Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt to play the crucial role of Sita opposite Ram Charan in RRR. Though it’s an extended cameo, the 26-year-old bombshell has instantly given her nod as she eagerly wanted to work with a directorial genius like Rajamouli. She is expected to shoot for her part in the coming days. Set against the pre-independence era, RRR is a fictitious story based on two legendary freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem. While Ram Charan is playing the former, Junior NTR will be seen as the later. Helmed on a massive budget of Rs 350 crore, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on January 8, 2021.

Sexy siren Pooja Hegde is teaming up with handsome hunk Prabhas for the first time in Radha Krishna Kumar’s upcoming period romantic drama tentatively titled as ‘O Dear’. Set against the backdrop of Paris in the 1920s, the first schedule of the film has been wrapped up a while ago in the exotic locales of Italy. At present, the shooting of the big-budget project is taking place in the specially erected sets at Ramoji Film City. While Prabhas is reportedly playing a fortune-teller, Pooja is rumoured to be seen as a violin teacher in the film. During a recent interview, the gorgeous gal termed the Rebel Star as the nicest person she ever met.

Stylish star Allu Arjun and happening beauty Rashmika Mandanna are joining hands for Sukumar’s untitled project and the regular shooting is expected to kick-off pretty soon. Touted to be a rustic actioner, AA20 features Kollywood star Vijay Sethupathi as the prime antagonist. The film is reportedly based on red sanders smuggling and the story will be set against the backdrop of Seshachalam forest, the hilly region of Tirumala. While Devi Sri Prasad will be composing the music, Polish cameraman Miroslaw Kuba Brozek shall handle the camera.
