T-towns fascination for star-centric scripts in which leading actresses are left with four-scenes and four songs is having its repercussions. While some leading actresses are happy with what they are being offered, some A-listers are thumbing down offers, despite big pay packets. Reigning star Trisha says she hasnt signed a Telugu film because she has no dates and insists that shes likely to sign a new film in Tollywood soon.
On the other hand, Nayantara has openly announced that shes fed up of playing the glam girl in film after film and it only interested in performance-oriented roles (case in point the blockbuster Simha) to showcase her acting skills. As an actor I dislike repeating myself. I also have reservations about doing the four-scenes and four song roles, she says.
BO queen Anushka also is playing safe and has comic-caper Ragada in hand, while Genelia hasnt signed anything after Orange. Even
Sneha Ullal hasnt cashed in on the BO success of Simha and has opted for a Tamil film. I am looking for roles that would give me a new image. I am tired of playing the goody two shoes kind of roles, Sneha reasons. For Mamta Mohandass, other language films are a better option rather than insipid roles in Telugu. Nothing but the best, can beckon me to do Telugu films, she affirms.
The audience usually follows the male protagonist for the story part and likes watching the heroine for the glam quotient.Women-centric movies have also failed to click at the BO. Leading ladies in most mainstream cinema are forced to either repeat themselves or do language films, says film producer Lagadapati Sridhar.
Well, until the winds of change sweep T-town, looks like our lovely ladies will have to wait, or look for better options.
