'Double iSmart' box office collections day 2: Ram Pothineni's action flick mints Rs 2.25 crores

Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt starrer 'Double iSmart,' directed by Puri Jagannadh hit the silver screen on Independence Day and had high expectations as it is the sequel to the 2019 hit 'iSmart Shankar'. With the fan's reaction coming on opening day, the movie seems to have fallen short of the mark.

As per a report by trade analyst Sacnilk, the momentum of the movie slowed on its second day, with the film bringing in Rs. 2.25 crore, bringing the total collection to Rs. 9.60 crore after it made Rs. 7.35 crore on day 1. While these figures are decent, they fall short of the blockbuster expectations that many had for the film.

In terms of occupancy, 'Double iSmart' saw varied responses across different languages and regions. On Friday, August 16, 2024, the Telugu version of the film had an overall occupancy rate of 22.71%. Meanwhile, the Hindi version struggled to make a significant impact, with only 10.21% occupancy, suggesting that the film may not have resonated as strongly with the Hindi-speaking audience.

One of the reasons it was not able to make a certain impact would be the crowded release date. The movie clashes with 'Stree 2' starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, which is performing extremely well at the box office. Apart from it, Akshay Kumar's 'Khel Khel Mein' and John Abraham's 'Veeda' have also been released on the same date.

The plot of 'Double iSmart' is a mix of sci-fi and action, with Sanjay Dutt playing the role of a character known as Big Bull as the main antagonist, who is diagnosed with a brain tumour. In a bid to save him, a memory transfer is needed, leading to the introduction of Ram Pothineni's character, Shankar. Shankar is identified as the ideal candidate due to a unique USB port embedded in his head.

The film also features Kavya Thapar as the female lead, with a supporting cast that includes Bani J, Ali, Getup Sreenu, Sayaji Shinde, Makrand Deshpande, and Temper Vamsi.
