Adivi Sesh recently opened up about a very personal memory from his school days. He spoke about how the famous song 'Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast' has stayed close to his heart for many years.
The first time he heard the song was from the 1994 film 'Mohra' while he was still in school. At that time he was rehearsing for a dance medley. The song was everywhere back then. It was loved by many people and Sesh was no different. The track starring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon became a part of his growing-up years. That memory never left him. Now years later, he has brought the same song into his upcoming film Dacoit, which also stars
Mrunal Thakur.
Why did the song come into 'Dacoit'?
Adivi Sesh has co-written 'Dacoit' with director Shaneil Deo. In an interview with Mid Day, he said the idea to use the song came from emotion, not for show. “Some songs stay with you forever, and Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast is one of those songs for me,” he said. He added, “Growing up, the track was everywhere, and I loved it. It was part of the first dance performance I ever did on a school stage and that moment is still vivid in my memory.” Adivi Sesh felt a strong pull to bring the song into the film. “When we were working on the film I felt an instinctive pull to bring this song in — not as a gimmick but as a feeling.”
For Adivi Sesh, this was not just about using a popular song. It was about respect. Before adding the track to the film he officially bought the rights. He said, “It mattered to me that this homage was done the right way.” For him, the song is a small personal memory placed inside a much bigger story. “Using it in the film was my way of tipping my hat to my younger version who fell in love with music, performance, and the joy of entertaining people.” He calls it a small memory woven into a large film.
India as an emotion
Earlier in 2024, Adivi Sesh also spoke about another childhood memory of him. The 'Dacoit' actor grew up in California, but India was always close to his heart.
He said in an interview with IANS, “My childhood was filled with Independence Day celebrations in California. Growing up, August 15 was a way for us to connect with our roots.” He remembered melas and dance performances. “As children, we'd do dance performances (I even won a couple).” He added, “It felt even more special because in America at the time we weren't surrounded by anything Indian. India was only in the heart.” For him India is not just a place. “India is forever my motherland that I'm trying to connect with.” He believes strongly that “India is an emotion.”
Meanwhile, 'Dacoit' is an action flick directed by Shaneil Deo and it hits the big screens on March 2026.
