Despite critical acclaim and positive word-of-mouth, the first part of
NTR biopic
titled
‘Kathanayakudu’
failed to rake in decent moolah at the box-office. Released on January 9th as a Sankranthi special, the theatrical rights of the
Krish directorial were sold at a hefty price of Rs 70 crore. Surprising one & all, the film wasn’t able to recover even 50% of the investment, thus pushing all distributors into heavy losses.
Aware of the losses incurred, Balayya Babu decided to compensate the buyers by giving away the theatrical rights of
NTR Mahanayakudu for free. After recovering their investment lost in the first part, the distributors are expected to pay him back.
Originally scheduled to release on February 7, the second part has been postponed to accommodate a few changes and complete the remaining patchwork. After much suspense, the release date of
Mahanayakudu
has been officially announced. The film will storm the theaters from
February 22
.
While the initial part focused on the inspiring journey of how NTR strived hard to become a superstar and
demigod
of Telugu cinema, the sequel Mahanayakudu will showcase his achievements on the political arena like becoming the
Chief Minister
barely 9 months after forming the party and launching a series of path-breaking welfare schemes.
