Swayam Krushi chronicles the life of a self-educated cobbler's journey from Rags to riches. It is a painful yet inspirational tale about a cobbler Sambayya who raises his dead sister’s son marries his childhood love and becomes rich with his hard work. But things become worse when his dead sister's husband returns from prison to claim his son and the money. Swayam Krushi had received a lot of praise and had established the merit of Chiranjeevi as a veteran actor.

The cult classic film went on to dazzle many generations of film lovers. Swayam Krushi is among those rare Telugu gems that has aged well and can make a viewer wistful even three decades after its release. This is possibly the finest example of what Tollywood is capable of creating a masterpiece. It’s an extraordinary film about ordinary people most of us are likely surrounded by. The film also featured Sumalatha, Master Arjun, Sarvadaman Banerjee, JV Somayajulu, Brahmanandam, MVS Haranatha Rao, PL Narayana, SK Misro, Baby Bhavana, Dubbing Janaki and Samyuktha. Ramesh Naidu had composed the music while Lok Singh cranked the camera. SP Balasubrahmanyam, SP Sailaja and S Janaki had lent their voices to beautiful songs while the lyrics were penned by Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry and C Narayana Reddy.
