The release of the Chiranjeevi-starrer 'Bholaa Shankar' on August 11 proved to be a major disappointment. Both critics and viewers expressed strong criticism of the film, citing its uninspiring plot and the absence of essential elements for a successful mass entertainer.
Following a lackluster performance in theaters, 'Bholaa Shankar' found a new home on the popular streaming platform, where it has been available for streaming since September 15. In contrast to its underwhelming theatrical reception, the film is now garnering a positive response from audiences since its release on OTT.
'Bholaa Shankar' has secured the top spot on this platform's trending list, consistently maintaining its position since its debut. It's worth noting that despite the Chiranjeevi-starring film having an extravagant budget of Rs 110 crore, its box office performance was far from successful, only managing to earn Rs 42 crore, classifying it as a box office disappointment. 'Ramabanam' follows closely behind in the rankings.
According to reports, the Telugu state distribution rights for 'Bholaa Shankar' were valued at around Rs 76 crore, but the film fell significantly short of expectations by earning less than Rs 20 crore. This resulted in a substantial financial setback for the producers, who incurred a loss of approximately Rs 60 crore.
In addition to Chiranjeevi and Keerthy Suresh, the movie boasts an ensemble cast that includes Tamannaah Bhatia, Raghu Babu, Murali Sharma, P Ravi Shankar, Vennela Kishore, Sreemukhi, and several others.
Chiranjeevi has been facing a challenging period as his recent releases, namely 'Acharya,' 'Godfather,' and 'Waltair Veerayya,' failed to make a mark at the box office. Looking ahead, Chiranjeevi has several upcoming projects, including the film previously known as 'The Journalist,' which was tentatively titled 'Chiru 157.'
