Chiranjeevi seals the deal; new percentage model begins July 3
Amid the ongoing tussle over the percentage-sharing model in Telangana, Tollywood exhibitors met Chiranjeevi on Wednesday for a second round of talks to resolve the crisis gripping single-screen theatres. The session capped a flurry of high-level industry parleys across both Telugu states, coming a day after a section of prominent producers held discussions with AP Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
Among those present at the latest meeting were exhibitors and industry representatives including Suniel Narang, TFCC secretary VL Sridhar, and several others associated with the Telangana exhibitors’ body.
Key takeaways from the latest talks
- Committee to give final resolution by June 30
- Current rental system continues until final decision
- For big films with ticket price hike, 7.5% of the increased revenue of exhibitors
Exhibitors back Peddi’s release
A temporary truce has cleared all hurdles for the theatrical rollout of Peddi. The Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce announced that theatre owners will comply with the joint body’s circular to ensure the smooth release of the film following an interim compromise brokered by Chiranjeevi. In the official press note, TSFCC Secretary VL Sridhar stated, “Chiranjeevi garu assured that he would regularly oversee the discussions and outcomes of the TFCC sub-committee and ensure that the percentage-sharing system is implemented within the timeline set by the committee. The new percentage-sharing system will be finalised by June 30 and implemented from July 3, after which films will be screened only under the percentage-sharing model and not the existing rental system.”
