Ram Charan’s ‘Peddi’ is gearing up for worldwide release on June 4, however, it became the centre of a big issue in the Telugu film industry. Megastar
Chiranjeevi who holds a prominent position in the industry stepped in to mediate the issue.
Producers and exhibitors were not able to agree on the theatre business model. Exhibitors in Telangana wanted a percentage-sharing system instead of the old rental system. But many producers did not support this idea. They felt this was not the right time to make such a big change because the market is already facing many problems.
Several meetings took place but there was no solution. The issue became bigger day by day leading to an ongoing tussle which made industry people worried that the release of ‘Peddi’ could get affected because of this ongoing fight.
Chiranjeevi steps in
As per a report by Variety India, when the issue reached serious stage, Megastar Chiranjeevi decided to step in and help both sides. A few days ago, he met some important exhibitors at his residence and spoke to them in detail. He listened to their concerns and tried to bring peace between both groups.
At the same time, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan also met some leading producers in Rajahmundry. He assured them that he would support the industry during this difficult situation. These meetings helped calm down the tension slowly.
After several discussions, producers, distributors, and exhibitors finally agreed to move forward with a new percentage-based revenue system. The Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce announced that Chiranjeevi would monitor the sub-committee meetings and make sure the new system gets implemented before June 30.
New revenue sharing formula
Under the new formula, producers and distributors will receive 60 percent in the first week while exhibitors will keep 40 percent. In the second week, both sides will share 50 percent each. In the third week, exhibitors will receive 60 percent while producers and distributors will get 40 percent.
