Break free from formula films: Ram
The young actor, whois back with a bang after a 15-month long sabbatical, grew up listening to reallife stories of his grandfather who fought for the country in the Indo-Pak war. These stories helped me understand what real patriotism is. I value thefreedom we now enjoy because somebody gave their today for our tomorrow, says the actor, who takes his responsibility as an actor seriously and says thatits the love and passion for good cinema that keeps himgoing. Excerpts from aninterviewYeah its been almost 15 months and for around seven of them, I have just been reading scripts. The pressure was tremendous. I was waiting for the right ones to come my way and then I okayed three apart from Kandireega, I am now working on Endhukante Premanta with Tamannah and I am doing a Gautham Menon film with Samantha as the leading lady and A R Rahman as the music director. It is! Thereis seriously a dearth of good scriptwriters here. After the success ofReady, I was flooded with scripts that read like differentversions of the same film. In fact, some of the films that were released afterit were piggybacking on similarstorylines.People are scared to experiment, but someone has to break through. Once a couple of offbeat films do well, I mean at the box office too, then Im sure the herd mentality will work in a positive way as scriptwriters and filmmakers get into experimentation mode! Right now there is some change in the way we make films, but thats still not enough.
The success rate of our films is so low because the content is bad. At a recent Film Chamber meeting that I attended, we were shocked to know the success rate of Tollywood film is just 2 per cent. By success, they meant, a film that was profitable to both the producer, exhibitor, distributor and theater owners.
