It's been ten years since 'Baahubali' hit the silver screen and basically introduced the word pan-India. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, is still remembered fondly long after its release by fans for the scale and vision of the film as well as the performances from Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Anushka Shetty, and a few others that turned it into a phenomenon.
Throwback to the time when the actress expressed that she was not working pan-India after building her stardom based on 'Baahubali'. Despite the pan-India fame from 'Baahubali', Anushka Shetty did something that surprised many after the release of the film, and that was not doing further pan-India projects.
In an interview with The Indian Express, the actress shared the reason behind her decision and why she chose to take a step back at the peak of her success.
She shared that after finishing Baahubali, she was committed to a film 'Bhaagamathie', and wanted to take some time off later. "It was by choice. It was something I needed the most at that time. Back then, I felt like doing that so I would be more present for my future projects. I know it's totally unheard of," she added.
She further mentioned that during her break, she wasn't even entertaining new scripts. Anushka said that unless something truly exciting had come her way, she had no intentions of immediately returning to work. It was a much-needed pause that she felt would help her approach future roles with renewed perspective.
Post-2020, she took a longer hiatus from films, finally making a return in 2023 with the romantic comedy 'Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty' alongside Naveen Polishetty. In the film, she plays a feminist who wants to remain single, while Naveen plays a man eager to settle down.
