Anurag Kashyap expresses disappointment over Shankar’s remark on making Ram Charan starrer 'Game Changer’ reel-like

Ram Charan and Kiara Advani starrer 'Game Changer' directed by Shankar is set to hit theatres on January 10, 2025. Recently, director Shankar shared insights about the film during an event in Dallas, USA, which sparked a reaction from filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Recently Shankar revealed that 'Game Changer' was made with the style of Instagram Reels in mind, taking in mind the shorter attention spans of modern audiences. This comment did not sit well with Kashyap, who expressed his disappointment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India. He questioned the implications of Shankar's statement and suggested that filmmakers should not cater solely to what they think audiences want.

He said, "I recently read this statement by Shankar sir where he said the audience's attention span has become very short because they watch reels. So, they had to keep that in mind while doing Game Changer. I don’t know what that means, and we’ll only know what he meant when we see the film."

Kashyap lamented that many directors are beginning to create films that resemble collections of reels rather than cohesive cinematic experiences.

The 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director shared that when filmmakers start prioritizing audience preferences over their artistic vision, it marks the beginning of a decline in quality. He believes that true cinema should be created with passion and conviction, rather than being tailored to the trends.

'Game Changer', features Ram Charan in a dual role as an IAS officer fighting corruption. The film also stars Kiara Advani with a strong supporting cast, including SJ Suryah and Prakash Raj. With its release just around the corner and a trailer set to debut on January 2, 2025. Ram Charan and Kiara Advani have started promoting the film, and the duo is expected to grace Salman Khan's hosted game show 'Bigg Boss' soon.
