Amyra Dastur is happy to finally act opposite someone her age
Amyra Dastur, who was all set to make her foray into Tollywood last year with a Puri Jagannadh film, had to let go of the offer for an international project Kung Fu Yoga, starring Jackie Chan and Sonu Sood. But as destiny would have it, shes finally making her debut here with Raj Tarun in Sanjana Reddys Raju Gadu. Now everybody is telling me, Youre finally doing a Telugu film (laughs). Last year, I was offered a film by Puri sir and another one opposite Vishnu Manchu, but Kung Fu Yoga came up and I couldnt take up any of them. But I had promised the makers that I would definitely work with them soon. So, Im back doing a film with the same production house that had approached me for a role opposite Vishnu Manchu last year, reveals Amyra, adding that she always wanted to act in Telugu films.
The reason I said yes to this film was the script; moreover the whole package is fantastic. I really respect Telugu cinema and the fact that people out here have a totally different style of working and are at par with Bollywood. Sometimes, they beat Bollywood with the kind of films they make, she says and adds, Im a big fan of RGV and I adore Amala Akkineni. When I saw her in Shiva I just fell in love with her. Talking about pairing up with Raj Tarun for this film, Amyra says she is happy to be cast opposite an actor who is almost her age. He is only a year older. Hes a very nice person and Im so comfortable with him. Im sure its going to be fun working with him, says Amyra, who kick-started the shooting of the film recently in Hyderabad. Talking more about the movie and her character, she says, Raju Gadu is a situational comedy where I play a fun and bubbly character. Shes a proper Andhra girl whos modern but loves donning desi looks. You will see me wearing a lot of kurtas. Im a very funny person in real life as well and end up putting myself into funny situations that sometimes cause trouble. But in this film, its Raj Taruns character who lands me in trouble. Amyra, who had made her debut in Tamil films last year with Dhanush-starrer Anegan (Anekudu in Telugu), is making a point to learn Telugu for this film. The fact that I did a Tamil film, is going to help me a lot in learning Telugu. I had picked up a few Tamil lines while shooting for Anegan and Ill pick up some Telugu while working for this film as well. I would like to learn a few cuss words as well (laughs). And trust me, my director Sanjana is really helpful and sweet. On the first day of the shoot she helped me with my Telugu dialogues and soon shell be giving me a list of comedy films to watch so that I get that comic timing right for this film. So for now, I just want to concentrate on Telugu films, says Amyra signing off.
