Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu Movie Review highlights: RGV's film is a drag
Ram Gopal Varma's 'Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu', previously titled 'Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Reddlu', directed by Siddharth Thatholu, finally hit screens today.
Starring Ajmal Ameer, Dheeraj, Dhananjay Prabhune and more in lead roles, the film aims to be a satirical commentary on the current political scenario in Andhra Pradesh. "Releasing today AMMA RAJYAMLO KADAPA BIDDALU with blessings from Paul, CBN, KALYAN and LOKESH who are all really very fictional and fictionally very very real," (sic) wrote RGV on his social media earlier today, describing the film best.
There's Babu (Dhananjay), his 'pappu' son Chinna Babu (Dheeraj) of Velugu Desam, an actor-turned-politician of Mana Sena and evangelist-turned-politician (Ramu) who rue the day they lose elections to a young Jaganath Reddy (Ajmal Ameer). There's also assembly speaker (Ali) who asks everyone to 'kept quiet' and snores at random moments, because overseeing the drama is too tiring. And a driver (Brahmanandam) who seems to have nefarious motives.
Despite a very long disclaimer that the film's content does not resemble any person living or dead and a special thanks delivered to 'all politicians' it's very clear that RGV has borrowed heavily from real life for his story. There's talks of how the new CM is backed by factionism and the Ex-CM is unable to bear the shame of losing. The aim now, of course, is to make Chinna Babu CM and save the legacy at any cost.
The first half of the film sure has moments where you chuckle because you can recognise the events they're borrowed from. But that gets tiring real fast and the scenes just seem to follow one after another with no structure in place. Ravi Shankar's extremely loud BGM that tries too hard at establishing the intensity in scenes and the actors that take their roles way too seriously don't help matters either. It remains to be seen how it all ends.
