Lakshmi Devi Kanakala, who passed away at the age of 78 on Saturday, was more than just the spouse of Devadas Kanakala or the mother of Rajeev Kanakala. As the principal of the film institute which she had started with her husband, she was a teacher to many aspiring actors, some of those well established in the industry today. For actor Allari Naresh, Lakshmi Devi was the first teacher.

In a touching tribute to his teacher, the actor said that he learnt how to be an artist from her, and that her demise is an irreplaceable loss to the film industry.
"She taught humility,she fed us during class and she generously taught her art to make me an artist. To be doing just what you taught me to do on the day you passed on is my salute to you.RIP my first guru Lakshmi Kanakala Garu,an irreplaceable loss.(sic)" Allari Naresh posted on Twitter.
On the work front, the actor was previously seen in the films 'Intlo Dayyem Nakem Bhayam' and 'Meda Meeda Abbayi', which released in theatres in 2017.
