Happy Birthday Akhil Akkineni: These cool facts of the handsome hunk will amaze you!

Along with Allu Arjun and Nithya Menen, Akhil Akkineni is celebrating his birthday on Thursday (April 8). Introduced to Telugu cinema as the grandson of ANR and son of Nagarjuna, the third generation hero from the prestigious Akkineni family made his protagonist debut with ‘Akhil: The Power of Jua’ in 2015. Though he struck the right chord as a capable protagonist with solid acting chops, handsome looks and dashing screen presence, the actioner bombed at the box-office. Post the successive debacles of ‘Hello’ and ‘Mr Majnu’, he has pinned all hopes on his upcoming rom-com ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’ starring Pooja Hegde as the leading lady.

The first look of Akhil Akkineni from Surender Reddy’s AGENT released to a stupendous response from netizens and the handsome hunk nailed it in the rugged avatar.

Akhil is a United States and Indian citizen

Not many know that the Akkineni hero was born in San Jose city in California, United States. During an old interview, Nagarjuna revealed that they moved to the US during the last two months of Amala’s pregnancy as he wanted to stay by her side, go for outdoor walks and enjoy the precious time. Akhil is of Telugu descent from his father's side and has Irish and Bengali ancestry from his mother's side.

Akhil was supposed to be born as a girl, according to the Gender Prediction Test

Nagarjuna and Amala went over the moon when the gender test in the US predicted that the soon-to-be-born baby will be a girl. They bought frocks, toys and other stuff for the baby girl and even booked the return ticket from America to India under the name Nikitha, which happens to be Nag’s favourite name. Surprisingly, two days before her delivery, Amala told her husband that it’s certainly a baby boy and it happened.

Story behind Akhil’s silver screen debut as an infant

Siva Nageswara Rao approached Amala when Akhil was just 6 months old and requested the dates of the infant for a comedy film. As the former heroine bluntly rejected the idea of acting at such a young age, the director persuaded Nagarjuna that the film is the remake of American adventure-comedy Baby’s Day Out and it would be perfectly suited for a toddler. Nag convinced Amala that he will produce the film himself and take all the safety precautions on the sets. He also promised that all the money earned through ‘Sisindri’ will go to her animal welfare organisation, Blue Cross of Hyderabad.

Akhil wanted to become a professional cricketer

Since childhood, Akhil was fascinated towards sports. At a young age, he himself selected a school in Australia that gives utmost importance to cricket and convinced his parents to let him go and explore the sport. Upon returning to the country and finishing his basic education, he headed to the University of South Florida for a Degree in BBA. At 16, he got enrolled in an acting course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. For the past few years, Akhil has been an active member of the Telugu Warriors team in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL).

Akhil’s wedding with Shriya Bhupal was called off in 2017

In 2016, 22-year-old Akhil was engaged to 26-year-old Shriya Bhupal, the granddaughter of business tycoon GVK Reddy. The wedding that was reportedly scheduled to take place in Italy has been called off in 2017 at the last minute. While the exact reason for the couple’s break-up is yet to be known, many cited the age gap as the factor. Some reports suggested that the alleged fight between the duo at the Hyderabad airport led to the wedding cancellation.
