Top ​5 Telugu stars who entertained as Lord Ram onscreen

Lord Ram is one of the most important characters on and off in several cultures across the country. Now, it is reported that Prabhas will be donning Lord Ram aka Raghava in his upcoming film ‘Adipurush’ directed by Om Raut and there are huge expectations across the country for the film.

Though this is the first time that Prabhas is donning the character, a few other actors in Telugu cinema have played Lord Ram and entertained the audience, let's see some of the most popular Telugu actors who have played Lord Ram on the screen as we gear up to see Prabhas’s performance as Raghava in 'Adipurush'.

​Sr. NTR

He is one of the popular first-generation Telugu actors and matinee idol who is often regarded as one of the greatest actors of Telugu cinema and is especially well known for the portrayal of Hindu deities, Lord Krishna, Karna and Rama. he became the messiah of masses with his films and film characters. NTR has reportedly played Lord Krishna more than 18 times on screen and played Lord Rama in blockbuster hits like ‘Lava Kusa’, ‘Seetharama Kalyanam’, ‘Sri Rama Pattabhishekam’ and other movies.

​Shoban Babu

Uppu Sobhana Chalapathi Rao, aka Shoban Babu, was one of the second generation heroes to play lord Ram on-screen and impress the audience. He played Lord Ram in superhit movies such as ‘Sampoorna Ramayanam’. The film directed by Bapu was one of the commercial super hit films of the year it was released.

​Jr. NTR

Jr NTR’s full-length role as Lord Rama based on Valmiki’s Ramayana is titled ‘BalaRamayanam’. the film went on to receive the National film award for ‘Best Children’s Film’ of that year. The film has also won several other awards and is considered a classic that deals with Rama and his retaliation against Ravana for kidnapping his wife Sita.

​Nandamuri Balakrishna

‘Sri Rama Rajyam’ is a 2011 feature film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Nayanthara in the lead roles of Lord Rama and Sita Devi, directed by Bapu and is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana. This one is also the last film for director Bapu. The film depicts Rama’s rule of Ayodhya after he returns home from Lanka, his separation from Sita and her reclusive life in the forest as she raises their children Lava and Kusa. The film went on to win several state awards for its content and performances that year.

​Prabhas

Prabhas is now doing his first mythological subject-based film, inspired by the epic ‘Ramayana’. The film is directed by Om Raut and it is being made simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages and is said to be one of the most expensive films to be made on the Indian screen. The film is also getting dubbed into Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada Languages and releasing on 12th Jan 2023 coinciding with Sankranti. Prabhas will be seen as lord Raghava, Kriti Sanon will play Janaki and Saif Ali Khan is set to play Lankesh in the much-anticipated film.

There are also actors like Haranath, Suman and Srikanth who played the roles of Lord Rama in various Telugu movies but the above-mentioned 5 stars stood out for the character.
