Nandita Swetha to play a Physics lecturer in her first film as solo lead

Nandita Swetha, the Bengaluru girl who made a splash in

Telugu cinema

with impressive performances in Srinivasa Kalyanam and

Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada

, is gearing up to play a solo lead role in the film Akshara. To be directed by B Chinni Krishna, the film is touted to be a romantic comedy, and Nandita will be seen essaying the role of a physics lecturer who takes on the perils of the education system.

“I always wondered if doing a lead role would be a burden so early in my career, Akshara made me feel the risk was worthy enough,” she says. Nandita admits that she was initially skeptical about the role as she felt she was too young to play a college lecturer. However, when students at the college where they were shooting began to
address her as ‘madam’, all her fears disappeared.

“I was always a good student in college, but hated Science as a subject. So I had a hearty laugh when I was told I had to play a Physics lecturer. That’s the beauty of films, it allows you to do something which isn’t possible in reality,” she says. Prod her more about the role and Nandita shares, “Many educational aspirations of students are shattered because of a few aspects, especially with regards to exorbitant fees that most international schools and colleges charge. I too had opted for a lesser-known college to study in, because my parents couldn’t afford anything else. This theme focusing on the plight of students who bear the brunt of the system really resonated with me.”

Besides Akshara, Nandita has a whopping seven Telugu films in the pipeline. She is currently awaiting the release of Bluffmaster, a remake of the Tamil film Sathuranga Vettai where she co-stars Satya Dev.
