Dorasaani: A shudhh Telangana love story

A peek into the bygone era of doras: The film takes the audience four decades back in time to 1987. “That was a time when doras held sway over village life in Telangana. Shivathmika plays the dorasani, daughter of a feudal overlord, who falls in love with the son of a lowly labourer who paints homes for a living,” says Mahendra. Sreedhar chips in, “Dorasaanis led lonely lives restricted to their quarters called gadi. People were scared to even look at them. how one such girl falls for a boy who waits for hours just catch a glimpse of her, is what the film is about.”
Authentic Telangana dialect: The dialogues and lyrics, rooted in Telangana sahityam (literature) will be a revelation, promises Mahendra. “It took me 3 years and 8 months to write the script. the Telangana dialect in the film will remind audience of National Award-winning films like Daasi and
Real locations for real feel: The filmmakers shot at real locations to maintain authenticity. “We shot in remote areas of Warangal, Nalgonda, Siddipet and Karimnagar to get the authenticity right. A fort in Warangal became the pitta goda for the hero and his friends. dora gadis are hard to come by these days. Luckily, we found an abandoned bungalow in Nalgonda which had a dora gadi. We painstakingly restored the same,” explains Mahendra.
Over 60 new faces: more than 60 newcomers are making their debut with this film. “We chose these artistes after several rounds of auditions. They slipped into their characters beautifully,” says Mahendra. sync sound for stellar effect: The makers are proud of the way the film has been shot. “Dorasaani is a technically brilliant film. We’ve used sync sound to make it more realistic. We also used an old anamorphic lens to shoot the film. It wasn’t easy to pull it off but well worth it,” adds producer Madhura Sreedhar.
