Did you know the first choice for the role of Jejamma in ‘Arundhati’?

We can hardly imagine any other actor playing Jejamma/Arundhati that Anushka Shetty managed to make her legendary. But the makers of ‘Arundhati’ originally wanted Manchu Lakshmi to star in this blockbuster film because she was well known for ‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu’ where she had essayed the role of a sorceress Irendri for which she has also won Nandi Award for Best Villain.But the actress didn’t have time as she was staying in abroad.
Singer-cum-actress Mamta Mohandas was the other candidate. But she declined this offer due to health issues. As a result, Sweety got this part. She had been auditioned for the role after all. The actress even rehearsed for the role to shape the film and bring it to a quality standard. Producer Shyam Prasad Reddy roped in designers from Kerala to design the outfits for Anushka and the designer clothes are so expensive. It took almost four months to prepare for the role.
Released on January 16, 2009, ‘Arundhati’ was directed by Kodi Ramakrishna and produced by Shyam Prasad Reddy under his home banner Mallemala Entertainments. The film also featured Sonu Sood, Arjan Bajwa and Sayaji Shinde in pivotal roles.
