'NTR Mahanayakudu' box office collections day 1: Krish and Balakrishna's film rakes in 2.12 Cr worldwide

’, released yesterday and was met with lukewarm response from critics and audience alike.

When the first part of the biopic ‘

NTR Kathanayakudu

’ hit screens in January, the film had high expectations pinned on it. However now, despite producer Vishnu Induri revealing that the second part will only cover events up to 1984, till NTR’s wife Basavatarakam, played by Vidya Balan, passes away, many seem to be disappointed that the film did not cover his political journey in its entirety. The producer had written on social media, “All set for grand release of#NTRMahanayakudu tomorrow. Looking forward to show the film to media and well-wishers tonight at the premiere. For all those who have been asking about the story, It's the story of #NTR narrated by his wife Basavatarakam Garu till her death in 1984.” (sic)

Reports state that while the film was expected to have raked in at least Rs 5 Cr on its opening day, it managed to bring in a share of Rs 2.12 Cr only

. The film was apparently a ‘washout’ in Telugu states according to Xappie, with the area-wise breakdown of the figure according to the website as follows:



The same figures were also shared by trade analyst Ramesh Bala on his social media. ‘NTR Mahanayakudu’ picks off where the previous film left off, with the late CM of Andhra Pradesh Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao choosing to enter politics and form his own party after a lucrative career in films. The film showcases the trials he faces in politics due to his foes and the loving relationship he shared with his wife. The film also saw Rana Daggubati essay the role of the current CM of Andhra Pradesh and NTR’s son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu.

Now, with both the biopics out of the way, it remains to be seen how Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ which promises to explore the relationship between Lakshmi Parvathy and the former CM will fare.
