Ippudu Kaaka Inkeppudu

Story: Hailing from conservative families, Gautam and Anu were forbidden all their lives to speak with the opposite sex. What happens when they get a taste of freedom?

Review: Ippudu Kaaka Inkeppudu has been in the news ever since the trailer of the film received attention for all the wrong reasons. Directed by debutant director Yugandhar, the film is backed by a story that aims to explore how children are emotionally affected when brought up in overtly strict households. However, the message is loss in midst of the mess.

Gautam (Hashwant Vanga) and Anu (Namrata Darekar) move to the city for their jobs. With the freedom of being away from parents who wouldn’t even let them speak to the opposite sex, they make the most of it. Being children who were held back all their lives, they let loose for the first time in their lives. The first half of the film runs high on the whiff of young love/lust. So it’s only natural that cliché, double entendre is to follow. Dialogues even cross the line from being romantically tasteful to downright cheesy. A lot of steamy scenes too follow, some of which seem too far-fetched. The ‘twist’ before the interval doesn’t do much to save the second half that goes from romance to preachy. The lag in the film doesn’t get any better by the time pre-climax and climax roll around. Screenplay goes for a toss and Ippudu Kaaka Inkeppudu tests your patience.

Hashwant delivers a decent performance, so does Namrata Darekar. The chemistry between the two comes across well. The other supporting actors, including Tanikella Bharani, Tulasi and Raja Ravindra are commendable. Tanikella and Tulasi’s performances as the strict father and orthodox mother remain one of the film’s highlights. Sahithya Sagar’s music is decent and catchy; he does a good job with the BGM. The editing could’ve been much better, especially when the film drags.

Yugandhar tries to pull off a film that’s both romantically entertaining and backed by a social message. It lacks in execution and the end result just tests your patience.
