Review:

Honey begins with a familiar kind of vulnerability — not the supernatural kind, but the everyday kind. Anand (Naveen Chandra) is an ordinary man cornered by financial strain, the sort of pressure that quietly chips away at reason. In the tribal and rural spaces the film is set in, superstition isn’t treated as an abstract idea; it exists as a lived reality, woven into community, fear and faith. Anand’s desperation makes him an easy target for the pull of occult rituals, and what starts as belief soon turns into obsession.

Director Karuna Kumar sets out to explore how fear can take root inside a household, not through monsters but through the mind. As Anand slips deeper into ritual and paranoia, the consequences ripple outward. His wife Lalitha (Divya Pillai) and their young daughter Meera (Baby Jayanni) are drawn into an environment of growing unease, where the home itself begins to feel unstable. The film’s most effective stretch lies in watching this slow transformation, a family’s emotional ground shifting under the weight of one man’s unraveling.

Naveen Chandra shoulders the film with a committed performance. He convincingly captures Anand’s gradual fall into anxiety and fixation, making the character’s breakdown feel internal rather than theatrical. Divya Pillai, meanwhile, brings sincerity and emotional strength to Lalitha, particularly in moments where helplessness and anger coexist. Their performances ensure the drama remains anchored, even when the narrative begins to falter.

Visually, the film understands atmosphere. The cinematography and earthy rural setting create an eerie mood, and the background score supports the tension without becoming overwhelming. Several sequences are staged with care, allowing dread to build quietly instead of relying on constant jump scares.

Where the film stumbles is in sustaining its momentum. After a promising setup, the story begins to feel stretched, and some developments follow predictable lines. The second half doesn’t consistently escalate the suspense, and the conclusion lacks the sharpness that the premise initially suggests. The ideas remain compelling, but the execution doesn’t fully deliver the psychological payoff it aims for.
