It’s a love story: Taylor said yes; and Kolkata Swifties can’t keep calm

Taylor Swift has announced she is engaged to her partner Travis Kelce. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” they wrote. Seventeen years after the pop superstar fantasised being proposed to - “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring, and said, ‘Marry me, Juliet,’” in her hit song Love Story - she had her fairy-tale engagement. The news came 13 days (Swift’s lucky number) after the couple appeared on Kelce’s New Heights podcast to reveal details about Swift’s forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl.

The announcement has sent Swifties into overdrive, with Kolkata fans joining the chorus of joy.

“This is the happiest plot twist ever,” said Joshua Mario Smith, a proud Swiftie. “I called my Swiftie bestie and said, ‘We’re singing So High School tomorrow, come prepared.’ Every Wednesday we sing a Taylor song for our weekly karaoke session at a local pub. We’re already planning a themed karaoke night to celebrate.”

For Sriya Agarwal, a South Kolkata fan, it feels straight out of a fairytale: “Taylor truly deserves someone who loves her so openly, and Travis has proved he’s that person. It’s romantic, enchanting, and a dream come true. It’s a love story — and she said yes!”

Sukanyaa Chatterjee called it “a big day for all Swifties.” She added: “Taylor made me believe in love as a teenager. To see her live the songs she once wrote feels surreal. The look, the ring, the vibe — everything was as dreamy as a Taylor Swift song.”

For others, the engagement feels like the ultimate full-circle moment. Kajal Bagaria summed it up: “Her 13th love is her forever love, her best friend, her soon-to-be husband. And no one owns the number 13 like Taylor does. My heart is overflowing — I’ve never been happier seeing her this happy.”

And Swachchatoya Roy captured the frenzy best: “Taylor’s music pulled me into feelings I never thought I’d find. Her engagement feels like absolute magic and madness — the dream plot twist my inner Swiftie has been manifesting. Gear up, girlies, our time is here!”

Vanshika Chaudhary plans to celebrate this special occasion with her fellow Swifties. She said, "I will be heading out with my Swiftie girls to vibe on her songs. Don’t even ask me to pick a favourite it’s impossible. Today is all about her, and I’ll just end by saying: she’s so enchanted to meet him. Suddenly, all her love songs make even more sense."

Saying that Taylor is going to enter her love girl era again, Elizabeth Vanessa Naser added, "It was 47 seconds after she posted and I was shocked but in a good way." To this, Ankita Barat, another Swiftie said, "For half of my life, I've heard Taylor write and sing about finding the one, but all she got was heartbreak after heartbreak. Now, she's finally found the one. In Taylor's own words, Travis is everything she has been writing about since she was a teenager."
