Vairamuthu, any award is a reason to feel happy. As he describes in his own words, “Just like how the rain is to a farmer, for any creator, an award is a source of happiness.” The Kaviperarasu won his fourth Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist at the recently held 65th Jio

2018 for the song Vaan from Kaatru Veliyidai.
Talking about the creation of the song, he says, “I wrote it in AR Rahman’s studio.
Mani Ratnam told me that his hero is an Air Force pilot and he needed a song for a romance that takes place in the skies.”
This is why, the lyricist says, he decided to use the term ‘vaan’ (sky) in every line. “The sky is one of the five elements of nature. I have written many romantic songs with the other four elements.”
In Rhythm, I had written five songs with each song denoting one of the five elements. But there, I had used clouds as the stand-in for the sky. So, here, we decided to use vaan. The lines kept pouring out — just like the endless sky. When the singer (Shashaa Tirupati) recorded the song, she sang extremely well. In fact, Mani Ratnam, Rahman and I felt that this would win the National Award for its lyrics. Though that didn’t happen, it got a National Award for the singer. I’m happy that Filmfare has honoured such a song. I thank the jury for this honour,” signs off the lyricist, who is now writing for upcoming films like Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha
