Music composer
Shravan is in a happy space right now, making singles on social issues. Having started off as an ad film composer, the young lad has come a long way. He says, “I have composed for more than 700 brands, which also include top advertisement campaigns. Later, I was assisting music composer and script writer
Isaac Thomas Kottukapally
for several of his feature and short films. I was also doing television serials for a brief period of time, including doing the background score for Kana Kaanum Kaalangal, Anbe Ve and so on. But I realised it’s time for me do something different, something out of my comfort zone. Usually, when you work on the music for films, you end up composing only for a particular situation. You don’t explore much as you need to compose for the story. It was then the idea of doing singles came about.”
Shravan has composed eight singles so far and all of them revolve around social issues. “I started by doing a song for
Jallikattu protest and then did a couple of videos on women. I also did something on child abuse, the drought situation in our country and about voting. I think it is important to voice out such issues in the form of a song. My songs don’t simply question the system, but exude positivity about the same. You need to throw light on such topics, right?” asks the composer.
Though he has composed these songs, the reach, he says, is minimal. “I am not a celebrity. So, the reach is minimal for songs that have a social message. I upload on my
Facebook and YouTube page,” he says. But that doesn’t deter the spirit of Shravan as he has two songs in the pipeline. “I am doing one for
Bharathiyar
’s birthday. I am also working something on single women in the city. This number is dedicated to them,” he says.
