Telugu folk singer Mangli
, who has sung chartbuster Telugu songs like Ramulo Ramulo (Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo), is entering
Kollywood
and making her debut as a singer in the Tamil film
Golmaal
, which has
Jiiva and Mirchi Shiva in the lead roles. The film, which is directed by Pon Kumaran, has Aruldev as the music director.
“Our creative producer Naresh Jain is the reason behind bringing Mangli here,” begins Aruldev, “He showed me several of Mangli’s songs to give me an idea on the uniqueness of her voice. Most of her songs have many millions of views on YouTube. The director was particular and wanted her to sing this song in our film.”
He calls the singer’s voice a “very special” one. “Hers is not an ordinary voice. It’s so bold. Just like LR Eswari had a unique voice texture, she has a distinct one,” he states.
Mentioning that the song will be “a special introduction for Mangli in Kollywood”, Aruldev adds, “The language Mangli sings in is a mix of Telugu and Banjara, which is also the name of the community to which she belongs. I wanted to experiment how it would be if she sang a song in her slang. I composed a tune that would specifically suit her voice timbre. It is an item number that is being shot in Mauritius.”
Lyricist Viveka has written this song, which will feature Jiiva. Popular singer Senthil Ganesh has sung the male portions. “We had a power-packed recording session. While Mangli is one extreme, we had Senthil Ganesh at the other end. His voice has a high range, so we have brought both together. The song will be a good mix of western and folk,” says the composer.
