Shashaa Tirupati’s Siyaahii gets a dance cover
We had recently reported that Shashaa Tirupati is coming up with a music video, Siyaahii, with Papon. Now, 13 dancers have virtually collaborated to make a dance cover for it. Interestingly, these dancers are from choreographers Arun and Chetan’s dance company, which choreographs for AR Rahman's concerts.
A source says, “This dance cover is extremely special as it has let the dancers vent out their frustration of not being able to dance as they did before the lockdown.

Amongst the artiste fraternity, dancers and singers have been the most affected when it comes to showcasing their skills during the COVID-19 pandemic and this song has provided these dancers a reason to smile.”
Shashaa had posted, “From AR Rahman Sir's #Encore Tour in 2013 to #SIYAAHII in 2020. Couldn't ask for a better testament to our eventful journeys thus far.All warmed up inside after watching this video with so many familiar, kind faces (sic). Thank you Arun and Chetan for giving a physical manifestation to "Siyaahii" - each performer here imparts a legit VIBE to our song!! And Nikhilesh my friend, you are tremendously loved! (sic).”

Arun and Chetan say, “Due to the pandemic-triggered lockdown, dancers suddenly lost the platforms – studio spaces, events, shoots etc, where they could express themselves creatively. Having said that, fundamentally, artistes are not always good at sitting still, and dancers of all stripes have found ways to stay active, even as their profession entered hibernation. The dance cover is a testament to the same. The response to the video has been encouraging and we thank Shashaa and Papon for all the support in bringing it to the fore.”
Earlier, speaking about Siyaahii, the Vaan singer had said, “A collaboration with one of my favourite voices in the country and the way the song shaped up is far beautiful than I'd imagined. Sid Paul has produced the track and I've composed and written the lyrics. We shot from two ends of the globe; Papon in Assam and myself from Vancouver, and we recorded prior to lockdown in India, albeit separately. It's interesting how we hadn't even met until almost a year after the recording! Papon's a beautiful heart and I respect the sincerity with which he rendered the song.”
