Singer Shakthisree Gopalan has come up with a

mashup

song video to pay tribute to

AR Rahman

, who celebrated his birthday recently, on January 6. The singer has given a new twist to two of the Oscar winner's most popular compositions from the 90s —

Aathangara Marame

from Bharathirajaa's rural drama on the brother-sister bond, Kizhakku Cheemayile, and

Humma Humma

from Bombay, Mani Ratnam's inter-religious romance drama. The former was sung by Mano and Sujatha while the latter — a pan-Indian phenomenon was sung by Rahman himself with Suresh Peters and Swarnalatha.

"Celebrating the birthday month of the one and only Mozart of Madras who redefined the sound of music in India and revolutionised the lives of 90s kids forever.Thank you for the music AR sir. We love you. This one is dedicated to all the #ARR fans out there — a mashup of 2 of our favourites from the 90s. Love and respect to Rahman sir and all the musicians and personnel who worked on the original recordings of these songs for giving us such absolutely timeless masterpieces. We hope you enjoy this mashup as much as we did jamming #withLOVE," wrote the singer in the description of the song video, which she has uploaded on her YouTube page.

While Shakthisree has arranged and performed this

cover

version, it also features Bhuvanesh Narayanan on keys, Naveen Napier on bass and Ramkumar Kanakarajan on drums.

The music maestro given the young singer her big break in Mani Ratnam's 2012 movie

Kadal

, in which she sang the chartbusting melody song, Nenjukulla. Since then, she has sung for the composer in films like Maryan, 24 and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.
