RJ Balaji croons a food song

After getting Yuvan Shankar Raja to sing the song, Anji Manikku for Puppy, composer

has got RJ and actor Balaji to render a food song for the film. The song,

Soththu Muttai

, is written by RJ Vijay.

Says Dharan, “The heroine is a food lover. She visits Chennai for the first time and the hero takes her to all the popular food joints in the city. We have listed places like Kalathi Rose Milk, Trouser Anna Kadai and so on. RJ Vijay has written the song, and we have taken inputs from people at these food shops for the lines in this song. Since it lists all the popular food joints and has a fun vibe to it, we wanted a voice that people are familiar with. And the first person that came to our mind was Balaji. It is a fun folk melody.”

So, how did Balaji fare as a singer? “I have known Balaji to be a good singer, but I didn’t know that he could sing so well. This is the first time I am working with him and he did a fabulous job with the vocals,” says Dharan and adds, “We had fun recording this song in the studio, with food being brought down from the places that are mentioned in the song.”
