Modi wished legendary singer KJ Yesudas, as he turned 80 today. The PM wished him a long and healthy life and lauded him for his contribution to the Indian culture. He posted, "On the special occasion of his 80th birthday, greetings to the versatile K. J. Yesudas Ji. His melodious music and soulful renditions have made him popular across all age groups.
He has made valuable contributions to Indian culture. Wishing him a long and healthy life." (sic)
Yesudas has recorded more than 80,000 songs and has sung in various Indian languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, and Odia. The singer and Padma Vibushan awardee has won the National Award for the best playback singer eight times. He is also known for his devotional songs.
Yesudas had recently collaborated with maestro Ilaiyaraaja after a long gap for the Vijay Antony’s film Tamizharasan, directed by Babu Yogeswaran. The song, titled ‘Poruthathu Pothum’ penned by Jayaram, was recorded with a live orchestra comprising 100 musicians.
