Veteran playback singer P Susheela has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for ��recording up to 17,695 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in over six Indian languages��. The singer, who made her debut in Tamil with the duet Edhuku Azhaithhai in the 1952-film Petra Thai, is a winner of five National Awards. Speaking to Chennai Times regarding the recognition, the melody queen remarked, ��I��m so overwhelmed with happiness that I do not even know where I am.��

She added that she finds it difficult to choose a favourite in her repertoire and considers all the songs close to heart.

She is the undisputed queen of South Indian music and equally if not better than her North Indian counterparts. In late 60s and earl 70s, an avid listener of Vividh Bharati will recall that out of 15 songs played in 4 languages played between 4:40 to 5:30 PM every day , PS will be singing 12 of them. Be it with TMS, PBS, SPB o Ghantasala or with our female singers like LRE, SJ etc. If the nations's bet singe award has been initiated in erly 60s, she would have won more than 15 awards by now. Any way she was the first to receive it in 1969. Her diction in all 4 languages were perfect while singing and abject lesson to all perspiring singers though while speaking she used to flutter a bit in language other than Telugu. Entire India should be proud of her.
