Neeye is a music video that celebrates dance
Bengaluru-based director and cinematographer Gomtesh Upadhye hopes to revive the trend of music videos with his new Tamil song,
Singers
Neeye
. The song, which celebrates dance, has music composed by Phani Kalyan. Talking about the video, Gomtesh says, Phani and I have been friends for a long time. He had composed this song and gave it to me asking if I can do something with it. I heard the rough track, and felt it would look great if it were choreographed as a dance number. I am sure Phani would have thought along the same lines, as the beats were apt to make it a dance song. I wrote a small story that goes with it about how two dancers who just begin a regular rehearsal session, slowly fall in love. I didnt make it cheesy, and kept the love portions subtle. We then began looking for professional dancers and wanted someone who was preferably trained in gymnastics. We castShreya Deshpande
and Niranjan Harish to play the leads. The dance portions are choreographed by Vishwakiran Nambi.Yazin Nizar
and Sharanya Srinivas have rendered the number, which is also being made in Telugu and Kannada. Our initial idea was to do it in Tamil. We took the crowd-funding route to pull in funds for the song. We raised funds in about three days, so, we thought of doing this in other languages, too. The response has been phenomenal. Director Gautham Menon called me and said such lovely things about the video, adds Gomtesh, who has directed a music video in Malayalam earlier. Nobody really makes music videos anymore. We wanted to revive the trend, and at the same time, focus on various topics. I am getting offers to do a feature film, too, he signs off.end of article
