Music Review: Seemaraja
Album:
Composer:
After Rajini Murugan,
The tempo slows down in the melodious Onnavitta Yaarum Yenakilla, where Imman ropes in his favourite Shreya Ghoshal along with Sean Roldan. The tune follows the typical Imman format, but what makes this one slightly different is the use of classical-cum-folk bits that make for a great listen. Shreya breathes through this poignant romantic number with all her heart and Sean brings in the raw rustic appeal through his voice. This one might take some time to grow on you, but worth a listen. The other version sung by Sathyaprakash and Shreya is equally good. But we still like the one with Sean better. The folk flavour continues in Varum Aana Varaathu rendered by Imman and Vandana Srinivasan. There is a mild retro feel in the song. The composer holds the song with his casual rendition. A passable listen, though.
Tempo is high again in Paraak Paraak. Imman gets Super Singer 6 winner and folk musician Senthil Ganesh for this number. With his authentic folk voice, Senthil brings fireworks to this number. The usage of Paraak Paraak works for this yet another mass number. This is followed by the soothing Machakkanni by Imman. This tune by Imman is a tried and tested one, but it still works with the listeners. But since there’s been an overkill of this tune, one might miss out on having this on their playlist. Then there is Seemaraja Swag by Shenbagaraj and Vignesh Narayanan. Working mainly on chorus, this one looks more like a background score elevating Sivakarthikeyan’s mass image. Ending with A Late Night Walk With Veena by Punya Srinivas, this one is an instrumental melody of Onnavitta Yaarum Yenakilla. Punya’s magic fingers on the veena will undoubtedly make you like this one. Imman-Ponram-Sivakarthikeyan’s combination works once again.

After Rajini Murugan,
Imman
and Sivakarthikeyan combo is back in Seemaraja. With a grand audio launch that took place in Madurai, the songs, too, evoke a sense of grandeur. After all, the songs in the album constantly reinforce Sivakarthikeyan’s growing mass image. The album begins with Vaaren Vaaren Seemaraja by Diwakar and Kavitha Gopi, a perfect introduction song for Siva. The beats rise as soon as it begins and don’t drop one bit. Kavitha opens with her powerful throw establishing the protagonist’s character, which is then taken over by Diwakar, who just nails this one. Everything works in this number — the tune, singing and the lyrics — making it a hit.Tempo is high again in Paraak Paraak.
