Sangathamizhan

Review: The soundtrack of Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming film Sangathamizhan has six songs and impressive names attached to them. The album kick starts with Oh My God, a peppy number sung by Nakash Aziz and Vivek-Mervin. The song, which sounds like the hero’s introduction number, lives up to its theme with its heavy beats and lyrics. Azhagu Azhagu is a soothing number sung by Shweta Mohan and Vivek-Mervin. Madhan Karky’s words paint the picture of a blooming romance.

Written by Ku Karthik, the next number is Kamala, sung by Vivek Siva and Sanjana Kalmanje. While the song has all the elements of a kuthu number, it sounds a bit familiar to the ear, joining the long list of other Tamil kuthu songs. Innum Vera, crooned by Vivek-Mervin and Diwakar, is a breezy song, with its words singing hopeful praises about life itself.

Anirudh injects his typical charm into Sandakari Neethan, which stands out from the album. Jonita Gandhi’s voices is a beautiful addition to the ballad. But the album’s best is undoubtedly Maaradha, a song sung by the inimitable Shankar Mahadevan. The impressive chorus adds fire to the song, amplifying its electric theme. While the soundtrack checks all the boxes of a typical Tamil entertainer, only a few are off the beaten path.
