Album: Charlie Chaplin 2
Composer:Amrish
Charlie Chaplin 2 is a sequel to the 2002 comic caper, which starred Prabhudeva and Prabhu in the lead. The first boasted some of the chartbusters of that year, which included a dance number, a duet and even a melancholy number. While this one may not feature your quintessential romantic duet, it is a fairly entertaining album, with some foot-tapping songs.
The album opens with the now popular Chinna Machan, a folk number that relies heavily on the chemistry between the male and female singers. And real-life couple Senthil Ganesh and Rajalakshmi nails it like a pro. Interestingly, the two had rendered this song in a reality show and Amrish has now given this a filmy twist. The background arrangements lend themselves to the genre, with rampant use of percussions maintaining the pulse of the song. What work in its favour are the cutesy lyrics (Chella Thangaiah). Next in line is I Want To Marry You Mama, a beats-heavy dance number. The tune is peppy, and the hook line (Yugabarathi effortlessly makes a mark in this department) manages to linger on. Bhargavi and Jagadeesh Kumar work their magic behind the mic. Apart from acting in it, Prabhudeva has penned the lyrics for a song that’s all about the things that a man likes in a girl.
Ivala Ivala has a simple tune, and even simpler lyrics, which describes why he has fallen for his girl. There are no gimmicks in terms of orchestration, with a short strings section being the highlight. Amrish has sung this one, and it’s a fairly catchy number. Another song sung by Amrish is Mamu Mamu, a heavy-duty, beats-heavy number that works more as a background score. Jinga Bunga — Theme Music complements the mood of the film — mad, funny, eccentric — but works just as an addition to the five-song soundtrack.
