Aval’s trailer has already created a buzz, what with intriguing visuals. And to compose music for a horror film is quite a challenge. But how has composer Girishh fared? Well, the album begins with Kaarigai Kanne by Vijay Prakash and Shakthisree Gopalan, a lovable and an instantly likeable melody. Vijay’s enthralling voice gives a great start to this song, which is followed by impressive keys and strings.Shakthi follows it up in the second charanam with her mellifluous voice. The dialogue portions in the middle give it an interesting layer. This one’s our pick of the album.
Going with the theme is Yaarada by Andrea Jeremiah and Mark Thomas, a spooky number. The manner in which Andrea and Mark have rendered this gives the listener an eerie feeling. They have managed to do this minus the visuals, which is a great thing. The high-on-beats tempo only builds up the suspense factor, especially the last bit. With visuals, this one should be great on-screen. Xiao Xiao Ma by Chen-Yu Maglin and Poorna M is equally ghostly, with Chinese lyrics. The album ends with Aval theme by Fame’s Macedonia Symphonic Orchestra and Girishh, which again goes with the horror theme. The keys and violin send us the chills. Girishh’s melody is the highlight, while the horror numbers are well-composed, without going over the top.
