It is known that Purushothaman had been with Ilaiyaraaja since his debut movie Annakili and was working with acclaimed music composer in all movies till few years back because of ill health. He had been in the team as a drummer and music conductor for Ilaiyaraaja.
Recollecting his journey with Purushothaman, Ilaiyaraaja said, "The time we have spent together in our entire life is more than the time both of us had spend even with our family. He is one of the most dedicated musicians that he would turn up for composing at any time of the day if I call him. One time, instead of calling my wife's name, I called my wife as Puru, that's close we have been. My deepest condolences to
Purushothaman
's family, may his soul rest in peace."
