A source in the know says, “Sriram (son of popular artist Venugopal Sharma, who painted the popular portrait of Thiruvalluvar) has directed a stage play on the life of Velu Nachiyar, and politico Vaiko, who was quite impressed with it, will be producing the full-length feature film. Recently, he met Ilaiyaraaja and discussed the possibility of him composing the music for the film. Vaiko is a huge fan of the composer and even Ilaiyaraaja was impressed with the idea of making a film on the Tamil warrior queen.”

However, nothing has been finalised officially yet. The source adds, “This was an informal meeting. Ilaiyaraaja is yet to sign on the dotted line.”

We hear that Vaiko will be part of the screenplay writing process, as well. The source informs, “Sriram has spent almost a decade, researching the life of Velu Nachiyar. He has staged the ballet in other cities in the country as well. He has asked Vaiko to help him in the screenplay and dialogue department.”
