‘I have used village-based sounds for Madura Veeran’

The film is directed by noted cinematographer PG Muthaiah.

Santhosh Dhayanidhi

, the music director of Santhanam’s Inimey Ippadithaan and the Sibiraj-Aishwarya Rajesh-starrer Kattapava Kanom, is now busy composing the music for

Madura Veeran

, which has Vijayakant’s son, Shanmugapandian, in the lead. The film is directed by noted cinematographer

.

“This is an out-and-out village subject and it is going to be my first rural album. I have used village-based sounds entirely, to make the music feel raw and earthy. I have gone for acoustic instruments and totally avoided synthesizers,” says Santhosh, who is currently working on the background score of the film.

The composer says that he has used singers from the villages for the vocals. “For a Karuppasamy song, we brought in Kottaisamy, a well-known singer of such songs. Another folk singer Jaya Moorthy has sung the

Enna Nadakkudhu Naatula

, which is a politically-charged song written by Yugabharathy,” informs Santhosh. “We also have a song that takes place on Maattu Pongal, and talks about our bulls, jallikattu and vaadi vaasal. It has been a long time since such a song was seen in our films,” he adds.

The youngster is also simultaneously composing for Daavu, which is directed by Rambhala of Dhillukku Dhuddu fame. “This is a city-based romcom, so the songs will be a total contrast to the ones in Madura Veeran,” he says and signs off.
