Band Staccato’s transformative twist on classics
One of Chennai’s favourite bands, Staccato is back with a live concert this weekend. Their Let’s Go Live concert will feature handpicked jewels from Tamil music across decades.
“There has always been a separate fan following for classical songs regardless of genres and language. Songs that are trending today may fade, but the classics won’t. People love listening to songs of Ilaiyaraaja, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Hariharan and Johnson Master.

As a band, what we do is to reinvent their works depending on the era, time, audience requirement,” says Gowtham Bharadwaj, leader of the band.
He adds, “We blend popular songs with traditional compositions or we blend languages to make the pieces more palatable and to make them enjoyable. We also follow trends to get an idea of what people are liking. So, we mix the composition with some track that is trending these days, which will make the spectators inquisitive to go back and listen to the traditional compositions.”
Staccato comprising Gowtham, Niranjana Ramanan, Sayee Rakshit, RH Vikram, Ashwin, Abhinandan, Vijay Ganesan, Shallu Varun, Saurabh Joshi, and Sandip Ramanan, and guest singers Anand Aravindakshan and Sivangi Krish will perform in this event along with the Elfe Choir.
