AR Rahman lights up Chennai; Dhanush adds the spark!
AR Rahman turned Chennai’s Valentine’s Day into a soaring celebration of love, music and nostalgia, delivering an electrifying concert that had the city singing along. From timeless ’90s classics to recent chartbusters, the Oscar-winning composer’s setlist kept the audience on their feet and fully immersed in the moment.
The energy hit a fever pitch when Dhanush made a surprise appearance to perform Adangatha Asuran from Raayan, drawing thunderous cheers and elevating an already charged atmosphere.
After the concert, the Academy Award winner shared a video on social media, and posted, “Home sweet home ..my loving clan ..touched ( sic ),” and added that the concert felt like the perfect way to sign off before his social media break. ““Ps ..before I take a sabbatical for the next 40 days from social media ..this is a nice way to sign off ( sic ),”he wrote.
The main surprise of the night came from stand-up comedian Alexander Babu, who turned singer for Rahman with his rendition of Raasathi. Sharing his experience later on Instagram, he wrote, “It was a privilege to be in the midst and sing some lines! ( sic )” The concert featured a star-studded lineup of vocalists, including Rakshita Suresh, Charulatha Mani, Chinmayi Sripada, Amritha Suresh, Anupamaa, Srinivas, A R Ameen and Adithya RK, who joined Rahman on stage throughout the evening.

For Chinmayi, the concert was extra special, as Saturday marked 24 years since the release of Kannathil Muthamittal , which featured her debut song, Oru Deivam Thandha Poove . “24 years to the day since Kannathil Muthamittal . It is surreal I am performing later today with Rahman Sir, here at Chennai. After all these years and the everything. (sic),” she wrote on X before the event.
Singing this song after 27 odd years on stage with the one and only: Anupamaa
Anupamaa brought the house down as she performed Chandralekha from Thiruda Thiruda (1993) more than three decades after its release, matching the song’s original energy and spark. Fans hailed her as the ‘OG’ on social media, while the singer later wrote on Instagram, “Singing this song after 27 odd years on stage with the one and only @ arrahman ( sic )”
