SIIMA 2015 Nominations: Best Playback Singer (Female)

Shakthisree Gopalakrishnan
If there was one song that was all over the place, it is this song. Featuring in the movie, Madras, Naan Nee by Shakthisree Goplakrishnan is subtle, romantic and is addictive. The movie directed by Pa Ranjith has actors Karthi and Catherine Tresa playing the lead. Composed by Santhosh Narayanan, the song has made waves in the music industry.

Shreya Goshal
The song, Yen Aala Pallaporaen from the movie Kayal was a pleasant surprise. Directed by Prabhu Solomon, the movie has Chandran and Anandhi and is about the 2004 earthquake and Tsunami. Goshal has as usual given her romantic touch to the song and this melody has topped the charts for a while now.

Yarumilla sung by Shweta Mohan from Kaaviya Thalaivan was a very popular song when the movie released. Composed by the maestro- A R Rahman, this song has a retro touch and has is Mohan’s first solo song. With some fantastic visuals, this song is a tough competitor.

Uthara Unnikrishnan
This song landed the 11-year-old her first National Award. Azhagu in the film Saivam by the petite and coy Uthara Unnikrishnan is a mega hit and is composed by G V Prakash Kumar. The Lady Andal school student sang this track in ease and even took inspiration for the song from her father and playback singer, Unnikrishnan.

Narayana Narayana from the movie Ramanujan is a classic number. Composed by Ramesh Vinayakam, this track has Vani Jayaram singing the leads. The highlight of the track is that the lyrics are by the late lyricst, Vaali. The film based on the life of mathematician Ramanujan has actors Suhasini and Abhinay Vaddi in the lead.
