‘Sema’ to ‘Oru Kuppai Kathai’: Tamil films to look forward to this weekend

As per Tamil Films Producers’ Council's (TFPC) decision, close to four films are releasing every week. In fact, the TFPC is now regulating and accommodating the release of every Tamil film. This week will see close to eight films hitting the screens. At the last moment, the makers of ‘Pottu’ have now postponed the release from May 25 due to a poor screen count available for its release. From GV Prakash Kumar-starrer comedy film ‘Sema’ to the romantic drama ‘Abhiyum Anuvum’, here’s a list of Tamil films scheduled to release on May 25.

'Sema'

Basking in the success of ‘Naachiyaar’, music composer turned actor GV Prakash is once again back to the silver screen with ‘Sema’, which is one of the Tamil films releasing this week. The theatrical trailer of ‘Sema’, which was unveiled by Sivakarthikeyan, has gotten a good response on YouTube. A commercial entertainer, GV Prakash plays a character called Kuzhandhai in the film, which has actress Arthana Binu playing his love interest. Produced by director Pandiraj under the banner of Pasanga Productions, the film is being directed by debutant Vallikanth and stars Kovai Sarala, Yogi Babu and Mansoor Ali Khan in supporting roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the film as well.

'Oru Kuppai Kathai'

The National Award-winning choreographer Dinesh is now making his acting debut in the upcoming ‘Oru Kuppai Kathai’, which is being directed by debutant Kaali Rangasamy. Last week, the makers unveiled the theatrical trailer, which seemed promising in terms of the content and narration. Touted to be an intense drama, ‘Oru Kuppai Kathai’ is reportedly inspired by true incidents. Produced by Aslam and Ramadass under Film Box Productions, the film stars actress Manisha Yadav. Yogi Babu also plays an important role in the film. ‘Oru Kuppai Kathai’ is being distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin under his Red Giant Movies label.

'Kaalakkoothu'

Prasanna-starrer long-delayed ‘Kaalakkoothu’ is finally hitting the screens on May 25. The film was supposed to release back in 2016 but subsequently postponed due to reasons unknown. Touted to be a romantic drama, the film is written and directed by M Natrajan. The film will see Prasanna and Srushti Dange in the lead, while actor Kalaiarasan of 'Madras' fame plays the other lead in 'Kaalakkoothu'. Reportedly set against the Madurai backdrop, the story revolves around the friendship between Prasanna and Kalaiarasan. If you’re a fan of rural drama, then ‘Kaalakkoothu’ should be on your watchlist this week.

'Abhiyum Anuvum'

Cinematographer turned director BR Vijayalakshmi has helmed the Malayalam-Tamil bilingual ‘Abhiyum Anuvum’, which is slated to release this Friday. Touted to be a romantic drama, the film created good buzz on social media when its Tamil teaser was launched by filmmaker Gautham Menon. ‘Abhiyum Anuvum’ stars Tovino Thomas and Pia Bajpai in titular roles and reported to revolve around the couple’s relationship. Notably, Tovino Thomas impressed the Tamil audience when his Malayalam drama ‘Maayanadhi’ released earlier this year. Interestingly, ‘Abhiyum Anuvum’ marks his debut Tamil film, after which he will be seen in Dhanush-starrer ‘Maari 2’. Produced by Yoodlee Films, ‘Abhiyum Anuvum’ has some big names like Prabhu, Rohini, and Suhasini playing supporting roles.
