Movies to watch this weekend

This week will see close to four films releasing on September 7. While 'Vanjagar Ulagam', which was slated for release last Friday, is riding high on expectations, both 'Torchlight' and 'Avalukenna Azhagiya Mugam' has created a decent buzz. However, films like 'Padithavudan Kilithu Vidavum' and 'Thodraa' received decent attention. Here’s is what you can expect from the films that will hit the theatres tomorrow.

‘Torchlight’

Torchlight is an upcoming Tamil drama based on true incidents that happened during the 90s.The film is written and directed by Abdul Manjith of ‘Tamizhan’ fame.

The film revolves around the life, sorrows and struggle of sex workers and how they use torchlights to stop a lorry driver on the Tamil Nad- Andhra Pradesh highway.Sadha is making her comeback with this film after her last outing 'Eli' alongside Vadivelu. The film also stars Rithvika, Varun Udhai, Dinesh Kumar, Sujatha, A.Venkatesh and Saravana Sakthi.

The film has already stirred up some talks in K-town and will be released on September 7.

‘Vanjagar Ulagam’

'Vanjagar Ulagam' is a crime thriller written and directed by Manoj Beedha who is making his directorial debut with this film. The film stars Guru Somasundaram of 'Joker' fame and Telugu actress Anisha Ambrose who is also making her debut in Tamil along with Harish Peradi Cibi Bhuvana Chandran, John Vijay and Vasu Vikram in important roles.

The music is composed by Sam C.S. and produced by Labyrinth films, the film will be a gangster drama film and slated for release on September 7.

‘Avalukkenna Azhagiya Mugam’

'Avalukenna Azhagiya Mugam' is a romantic drama written and directed by A. Kesavan who is making his debut with this film. The film stars newcomers Vijay Karthick and Anupama Prakash is lead role along with Yogi Babu.

The director, who previously assisted Kadhir and Kalanjiyam, said that this movie will be a rom-com with a twist. The film will have a message for today's teenagers. Another highlight of the movie will be a special number sung by a tribal woman Chandralekha who has a big Youtube following.

The film, produced by Kathiravan studios, is busy with the promo work. It will hit the theatres tomorrow.

‘Padithavudan Kilithu Vidavum’

'Padithavudan Kilithu Vidavum' is a comedy-horror film starring supporting actor cool Suresh in the lead along with Nellai Siva and newcomer Sridhar. The film is created and directed by Hari Uthara of 'Theru Naaigal' fame.

The film produced jointly by R. Usha Sri International Movies is based on the concept of insurance fraud. The film gives us an insight into the people who play the dangerous game of politics.

‘Thodraa’

'Thodraa' is a typical love story which highlights caste issues and adorns brother-sister sentiments. The film stars Prithvi Pandiaraj and Veena Nandakumar in lead roles.The film is based on two shocking incidents which took place in Tamil Nadu and the problems faced by lovers.

Speaking about the same, director Madhuraj said, “As it is youngsters have to face a lot of problems if they are in love. So, when a couple elopes, their problems increase exponentially. Worse, if they get into wrong hands! I have taken one such case and have spoken about the issues.”

He also said that this will be an important film for Prithvi in his career and will give him a big break like 'Kadhal' did Bharath.
