Kollywood debutants of 2017!

The glamorous lifestyle, party hard environment is loved by all. This year Kollywood welcomed many new faces and many more are yet to enter the industry. And, some of these debutants managed to cast a spell on the audience. Here is a short glimpse best debutants of the year.

Mahesh Babu: Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu made his debut in Kollywood with AR Murugadoss’s bilingual ‘Spyder’. Though the film didn’t do well at the box office, Mahesh Babu put up a great performance along with SJ Suryah in the film. It was a dream come true all the Mahesh Babu fans in Tamil Nadu to see their favourite star doing a Tamil film. Mahesh Babu came into the industry as a child artist at the age of four. He played a cameo in Needa (1979), which was followed by a few films as a child artist. He got his breakthrough in the film Murari (2001) and melodrama Okkadu (2003) (original version of Gilli). He went on to do a few commercially hit films like Athadu, Pokiri, Dookudu, Businessman, Srimanthudu amongst others in the future.

Aditi Balan: Aruvi, one of the best or the best films to be released this year introduced Aditi Balan, who played the lead role in the film. It has just been a week from the film’s release, but Aditi Balan has already become the talk of the town. She has pulled off an impeccable performance in this one-of-a-kind film. Aditi attended a couple of theatre workshops while working in Chennai, only then she got the opportunity to audition for the role in ‘Aruvi’.

Shraddha Srinath: This 27-year-old Bengaluru girl has made people sit back and take notice of her arrival in the Kollywood film industry. She made her debut in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ by playing a cameo. Though her first outing didn’t turn out to be a great one, she bounced back strongly with some good performances in ‘Ivan Thanthiran’ and ‘Vikram Vedha’ as a lead heroine. One of the best films of the year ‘Vikram Vedha’ was a huge breakthrough for Shraddha as a heroine, she played an important role in the film as the wife of Maddy, which had Vijay Sethupathi playing a lead role. The actress is also part of Nivin Pauly’s first straight Tamil film ‘Richie’ which will release in December 8. Shraddha has played a few amazing roles in Kannada. Her role in the Kannanda film ‘U Turn’ won her the Filmfare Award for the best actress in 2016. She has also played an important role in another Kannada film ‘Urvi’.

Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi: The young music director-turned-actor made his acting debut as a hero in the film ‘Meesaya Murukku’ directed by him. The film went on to become a good hit commercially. The fans of Adhi went crazy seeing their favourite composer as an actor, though he showed a glimpse of acting in his independent singles, this was a complete treat to his fans. Adhi shot to fame as a composer after the success of his track ‘Club le Mabbu le’. He went on to release India’s first hip hop album in Tamil, ‘Hip Hop Tamizhan in 2012. Adhi also composed music for the films in future. His debut film as a music director was Vishal’s ‘Ambala’ in 2015. However, Adhi’s turning point was ‘Thani Oruvan’, the background score of the film was one of the most talked about factor of the film. He has also composed music for other films like ‘Indru Netru Naalai’, ‘Aranmanai 2’, ‘Kavan’ and others. Adhi, recently composed an anthem for Coimbatore (Kovai Anthem), which reached 1 million views in two days.

Aparna Balamurali: The 22-year-old actress made her Tamil debut with ‘8 Thottakkal’, one of the most talked about film of the year directed by Sri Ganesh. The film also features Vetri, MS Bhaskar, Nassar among others. Aparna is also a playback singer in the Malayalam film industry. She established herself as an actress in the film ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, which had Fahadh Faasil in the lead role. The song ‘Mounangal Mindumoree’ in the film was sung by her, Aparna also has lend her voice for the song ‘Mannippaya Ena Ketkadhe’ in ‘8 Thottakkal’.

Akshara Haasan: The younger daughter of Kamal Haasan entered the Kollywood film industry in style making her debut in Thala Ajith’s Vivegam, a ‘Siruthai Siva’ directorial. She played Natasha, a hacker in the action film, which was praised by her fans. Though her father Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan made his acting debut in Tamil, her first film was director Balki’s Bollywood super hit ‘Shamitabh’, which was followed by another Bollywood film ‘Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana’. She played an assistant director in the ‘Shamitabh’, which had Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead roles. Her role was praised by many critics and leading actors. She is also the assistant director of Kamal Haasan’s much awaited trilingual ‘Sabaash Naidu’.

Thakur Anoop Singh: The 28-year-old actor made his acting debut in Si3, the third film in the Singam franchise of Suriya. He played the antagonist, Vittal Prasad. Thakur Anoop Singh is a fitness enthusiast and a body builder. He has won gold medal in 7th WBPF World Bodybuilding Championship in Thaliand in 2015 and has won bronze in 49th Asian Championship Uzbekisthan. Thakur became a household name because of playing Dhritarashtra in the 2013 TV series Mahabharat, he also played ‘Hanuman’ in the 2011 TV series Ramayan. He made his Bollywood debut in Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Commando 2’.

Athulya Ravi: Coimbatore girl Athulya made her debut with a small budget film ‘Kadhal Kan Kattudhe’, which did decently at the box office. The actress received a lot of appreciation for her role in the film. Athulya is now part of VZ Durai’s ‘Yemaali’, which also has Samuthirakani and Sam Jones playing pivotal roles. The teaser of ‘Yemaali’ that got released recently has received mixed reviews from her fans. Going by the teaser, it looks like Athulya has played a bold role in the film.

Sayyeshaa Saigal: This 20-year-old beauty made her Tamil debut with Jayam Ravi’s ‘Vanamagan’. She played a posh girl in the film, who falls in love with a tribal man (Jayam Ravi). Though the film didn’t do great, Sayyeshaa made her presence felt in the film. Sayyeshaa, the grandniece of actors Saira Banu and legendary Dilip Kumar made her debut in the Telugu film ‘Akhil’ (2015), the very next year she introduced herself to the Bollywood by acting in Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ (2016). After ‘Vanamagan’, the actress is now working in Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Jungaa’, Arya’s ‘Ghajinikanth’ and an untitled film which has Karthi, directed by Pandiraj.

Priya Bhavani Shankar: The 27-year-old actress made her Kollywood debut in the film ‘Meyaadha Maan’ acting opposite Vaibhav. The romantic comedy was a huge hit for its hilarious concepts and quirky scenes. Priya was appreciated by the fans and critics for her acting in the film. Priya rose to popularity after appearing in the soap opera ‘Kalyanam Mudhal Kaadhal Varai’. This was a turning point for Priya as an actress. She started her media career as a news presenter in a popular Tamil news channel and went on to host several shows in Vijay TV. She hosted shows like ‘Kings of dance’, Super Singer, Jodi Number One, she also was the anchor for Filmfare Awards South in 2015. The actress has signed several other films including Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Junga’ and a film with Karthi.

Aathmika: The young actress couldn’t have asked for a better debut than this. She shares her acting debut with the popular music composer Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi in ‘Meesaya Murukku’. The film went on to become a good hit and Aathmika has become a household name now. Aathmika has appeared in ad films and short films before getting onto the big screen. She has also acted in a short film directed by popular ad filmmaker Rajiv Menon. Aathmika is now working in “Naragasooran’ directed by Dhuruvangal Pathinaru’ fame Karthick Naren. The film has Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan and Indrajith Sukumaran in the cast.

Kriti Kharbanda: The young heroine is a model-turned-actress working in Kannada film industry predominantly. She made her acting debut in the Telugu film ‘Boni’. She made her Kannada debut in the very next year with the film ‘Chiru’, which has Chiranjeevi Sarja in the lead role. The 27-year-old actress made her Tamil debut with GV Prakash’s ‘Bruce Lee’, an action-comedy film. Interestingly the actress also acted in a Telugu film titled ‘Bruce Lee’ which had Ram Charan in the lead role.

Neha Sharma: Bollywood actress Neha Sharma made her Kollywood debut in Dulquer Salmaan’s bilingual ‘Solo’. She played Bama, Dulquer’s love interest in the World of Rudra, one of four phases in the film. She was adorable and enthralling in her role, famous peppy track from the film ‘Roshomon’ made her more popular. She made her acting debut in a Telugu film in 2007. She shared her debut with Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja in the film ‘Chirutha’. Following that Neha moved to the Hindi film industry and acted in several films like ‘Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum’, ‘Youngistaan’ and others. Neha Sharma’s father Ajit Sharma is a Indian National Congress politician and is the MLA of Bhagalpur.
