An entire Ukraine themed song to be recreated in VFX

Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's '2.0' will have ample use of VFX throughout the film. According to latest buzz, an entire song in ‘2.0’ will feature VFX. Apparently, Shankar and team were planning to head out to Ukraine for a romantic number, but due to Rajinikanth’s health condition they have decided to shoot the song in India. However, the incredible part is that all the scenic locations across Ukraine have already been captured and they will recreated in VFX for this song! The backdrop for the romantic number will be changed and the CGI experts are already working on it. This will make the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer one of the few Indian films to pull off such an incredible feat.

Shooting began with low key ceremony

Director Shankar has always been about grandeur and making his films larger-than-life. So the team was planning to launch the film in a grand manner on the superstar’s birthday in 2015, but decided not to. It was because Chennai was ravaged by with one of the worst floods ever witnessed that year. Keeping in mind the traumatic times and the plight of the people, ‘2.0’ team decided to start shooting with a very low key ceremony on December 12 in 2015.

Lot of actors were considered for Akshay’s role

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar landed the role of the main villain in the film. However, he was definitely not the first choice. A slew of actors such as Kamal Haasan, Aamir Khan, Vikram, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hrithik Roshan and Neil Nitin Mukesh were approached for the role of Dr Richard. Out of the lot, Arnold looked really promising but in the end the Hollywood superstar demanded a very high remuneration and he couldn’t be brought on board. Eventually, the antagonist’s role was offered to Akshay and he agreed without missing a beat.

Amitabh and Abhishek visited the sets

A high octane action sequence was being shot in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. During the 45-day schedule, a match between Chennaiyin FC and Mumbai City FC as a part of the ISL tournament, was scheduled to take place there. During this schedule, the ‘2.0’ team got a surprise visit from none other than Amitabh Bachchan and his son, Abhishek Bachchan. Their special visits led to a lot of speculation that they will play a guest appearance in the movie. These rumours were later denied by the team.

Touted to be India’s most expensive movie

‘Baahubali’ held the title of India’s most expensive movie with a budget of approximately Rs 150 crore. But it looks Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ easily surpassed the SS Rajamouli film in terms of its budget. If rumours are to be believed, then the ‘Robot’ sequel is being made on a budget of a whopping Rs 350 crore! This makes ‘2.0’ the most expensive Indian film ever made.
13/14

How it got title of '2.0'

Initially, the makers were planning to give the movie a title of ‘Robot 2’ or ‘Enthiran 2’ in Tamil. However, it seems that the team encountered a few legal problems with this title. Which is why they resorted to name it as ‘2.0’. Even though it is a direct continuation of ‘Enthiran,’ it is only titled ‘2.0’ and cannot actually be called ‘Enthiran 2’ officially. Of course, it is not a big problem because the name of ‘2.0’ has really caught on well.

International crew

‘2.0’ boasts of some of the best technicians in the world. Mary E Vogt is the official costume designer. She has worked on Hollywood films like ‘Men In Black’ and ‘Tron Legacy’. She even worked on Vikram’s ‘I’. Sean Foot of ‘Avatar’ fame is handling the make-up of ‘2.0’. Kenny Bates, who choreographed action for ‘Transformers,’ is also a part of the project, along with VFX team comprising of John Hughes and Walt, who have done VFX for films like ‘Life of Pi’, ‘300’ and ‘Percy Jackson’.
