Five reasons to watch Jayam Ravi-starrer ‘Tik Tik Tik’

Jayam Ravi’s much-awaited space-thriller ‘Tik Tik Tik’, which was supposed to release in January, and then pushed to March 2018, was subsequently delayed due to the Kollywood strike that went on for over 48 days. After being postponed twice, the film is finally hitting the screens today! Directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, ‘Tik Tik Tik’ is one of the big releases this month and we give you five reasons why you shouldn’t miss this Jayam Ravi-starrer.

Jayam Ravi's collaboration with Shakti Soundar Rajan

Since the stupendous success of ‘Thani Oruvan’, Jayam Ravi has been careful picking his scripts. Last year, his adventure-drama ‘Vanamagan’ opened to mixed response from the audience. ‘Tik Tik Tik’ will see Ravi collaborating with Shakti Soundar Rajan once again, following the success of ‘Miruthan’. The director has earned a niche for himself after the success of his two films ‘Naaigal Jaakirathai’ and ‘Miruthan’. With a lot riding on their shoulders, will their joint venture ‘Tik Tik Tik’ emerge as a winner? Well, only time will tell.

India’s first space-thriller

Space is one place that hasn’t been explored much in Indian cinema. However, Shakti Soundar Rajan hopes to change that with ‘Tik Tik Tik’, which is touted to be India’s first space film. Since there aren’t any reference points in Indian cinema, comparisons are bound to happen with some top international films. When the theatrical trailer was unveiled last year, ‘Tik Tik Tik’ created waves on the internet. The makers were lauded for the stunning visuals. Going by the trailer, it begins with an asteroid striking at a remote place in Chennai, following which a team of astronauts are assigned a mission to the outer space. Unlike many mainstream films, the makers are reported to have taken the genre seriously.

‘Tik Tik Tik’ promises to be a visual treat

Hollywood space-thrillers have always worked well with the Indian audiences, primarily for its viewing experience. Films such as ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Gravity’ had fared well in Tamil Nadu. If not anything, ‘Tik Tik Tik’ should be on your watchlist mainly for its unique theatrical experience. Reportedly, the makers have spent a huge sum on VFX in order to make sure that ‘Tik Tik Tik’ is on par with Hollywood projects. Reports suggest that the VFX portion alone accounts for 80 minutes of the film. Even if the film manages to deliver half of what’s shown in the trailer, trade experts predict that the film will work with the masses.

5/6

Strong supporting cast

The makers of ‘Tik Tik Tik’ roped in some of the big names in the industry to blast them into outer space. Apart from Jayam Ravi, the film stars Nivetha Pethuraj as the leading lady, who will also put on her space-suit and play an astronaut. ‘Tik Tik Tik’ has strong supporting artists such as Ramesh Thilak, Vincent Ashok, Aaron Aziz, Jayaprakash and Arjunan playing important characters.

Another thing to look forward to is Jayam Ravi’s son Aarav Ravi being cast to play a pivotal role. According to reports, the film is said to have explored the relationship between father and son. In the film, Ravi is reportedly playing a magician, who teams up with astronauts on their space mission. Aaron Aziz will be seen as the antagonist and his scenes with Ravi are said to be the highlights of the film.

Music by D Imman

Among the younger lot of music composers, D Imman is someone who has been delivering chart-topping albums. He is once again teaming up with Shakti Soundar Rajan after the commercial success of ‘Miruthan’, and its hit music album. One of the major highlights of ‘Tik Tik Tik’ is its music composed by the famed musician. The album, which was out in December 2017, has received a decent response from the audience. The album comprises of four songs and some instrumental tracks. From the trailer, it looks like Imman has produced some of his best pieces for the film's background score.
