10 onscreen couples we would like to see again in films today

When it comes to creating perfect chemistry on screen in Kollywood, the first names that comes to your mind is evergreen stars MGR and Saroja Devi and Sivaji Ganesan and Padmini. Watching these stars dazzle on the silver screen was magical. In fact, several moviegoers specially picked movies that would have these stars just so they could enjoy watching them romance each other and leave the audience with goose bumps. While legends are forever going to be looked up to, we have compiled a list of best onscreen couples who managed to stir the audience, as they sizzled on the silver screen...

10 onscreen couples we would like to see again in films today

Kamal Haasan and Sridevi

Who wouldn’t want these two celebrities to come together one last time just so we can reminisce those days! After doing more than 20 films together, it was established that Kamal and Sridevi made the audience wonder, “How did they not manage to fall in love?!”. Their movies always received a very good response. Ulaganayakan Kamal Haasan and Kollywood star Sridevi were so magnificent on screen that they made the audience cry with their performances. Be it Moondra Pirai’s last scene where Sridevi thinks of Kamal as a retard to the scene in Vazhvey Maayam where she runs to Kamal’s house as he breathes his last – these two have always done a beautiful job as onscreen pairs!

Karthik and Revathi

Mani Ratnam is known to astound the audience with his brilliant script and picturisation, but one of the best surprise he gave his fans was the starcast of Mouna Raagam. The cute girl-next-door Revathi being romanced by the chivalrous Karthik was done tastefully. Karthik and Revathi’s onscreen pairing created ripples as it instantly connected to the audience. Their chemistry was mind-blowing and fans started to anxiously wait for their movies together. However, the duo only came together in three movies, as reports of their alleged affair started surfacing, resulting in the two declining working together. We still wish that these two come together again and enthral the audience with their cuteness.

Prabhu and Khusboo

This Kollywood beauty from Mumbai made it big in South. She gained instant fame for her first film and gave fan fanaticism a new meaning with her fans building a temple for her! Khusboo and Prabhu’s pairing was appreciated tremendously. They worked in around ten movies and their onscreen chemistry was splendid. They also gave several hit films and immediately became talk of the town with alleged linkups. Reportedly, the two dated for some time and even had a live-in relationship. But that didn’t work out and eventually they went separate ways. We do hope that someday, these two celebrities would collaborate and create magic all over again with their chemistry.

Vijay and Simran

Sultry Simran and Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s onscreen chemistry was wonderful! In fact, the actress in an interview with Behindwoods.com, stated that Vijay is her favourite co-star and that the duo would usually compete with each other over who could finish scenes in one take. Friendly behind the camera and romantic on frame, these two celebrities gave splendid performances in films like Thullatha Manavum Thullum, Priyamanavale and Udaya. We really hope that Simran returns to silver screen and sizzles with Vijay!

Ajith and Shalini

One of the best onscreen and off screen couples, Ajith and Shalini Kumar made for the perfect couple in Amarkalam. The duo first met on the sets of Amarkalam and instantly fell in love. Their onscreen chemistry surely clicked well with the audience because of their off screen love. Words fall short when we talk about this couple. They got married in 2000 and are proud parents of daughter Anoushka and son Aadvik. While Thala Ajith is still in the film industry, gifting his fans with his panache appearance in movies, we would really like Shalini to make a comeback with her husband, as her co-star so we can relive the Amarkalam days!

Suriya and Jyothika

Racing Ajith and Shalini in the best-looking onscreen and off screen couple are Suriya and Jyothika. Suriya and Jyothika acted in around eight movies together and we are happy that we got to see eight films starring this fantastic pair! The duo dated for a long time before tying the knot. Suriya and Jyothika’s romance sequence have always been appreciated. Be it Per Azhagan or Kaakha Kaakha, we can never get enough of these two. With Jyothika’s recent comeback in Tamil industry in 36 Vayadhinile, she looks beautiful as ever and we really hope that she stays back for a long time and performs alongside Suriya!

Madhavan and Shalini

One of the best romantic movies filmed by Mani Ratnam, Alaipaayuthe had Madhavan and Shalini donning the cutest married couple on screen. Ratnam, who is known to twist the phenomenon of love and deliver a classic tale, has never failed to impress his fans. He did so in Alaipaayuthe as well and one the best decisions of making the film definitely has to be the cast. The film spoke of romance in marriage and the trials and tribulations a couple goes through. Chocolate boy Madhavan and damsel Shalini pulled off a great show in the film and created legend!

Trisha and Silambarasan

Gautham Menon’s love story, Vinaithandi Varuvaaya, was beautifully portrayed by the starcast, Trisha and Silambarasan. We all know how inter-religion love stories end, sometimes sad, sometimes triumphant. However, this love story specifically showcased not just the problem of inter-religion love but also how career and distance sours love. Beautifully shot in several international locations, Gautham Menon created one of the best love stories of all time. And casting Trisha and Silambarasan as the leads worked in favour for the director. Their magnificent Jodi connected with the audience and won several hearts!

Arya and Pooja

Having worked in Ullam Ketkumae, Pattiyal, Oram Po and Naan Kadavul, Arya and Pooja have made quite an impact on their fans. Not just as brilliant actors but also a curiosity of whether the couple are dating or not. Arya and Pooja’s first film together, Ullam Ketkumae itself showed the cutest romance that touched hearts of the audience. They were so adorable in all the movies they worked together that the inquisitive bug to know their relationship status had to creep up. Pooja and Arya both claim to be good friends, we just hope to see them create more and more magic and fervour on screen!

Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen

Mani Ratnam with his coming of age romance drama, O Kadhal Kanmani or O.K. Kanmani, brought together two heartthrobs, Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen. The duo looked very adorable on screen. While the girls went all gaga over Dulquer’s looks, Nithya bagged hearts of all the male fans for her portrayal of a bold, carefree, career-driven city girl who, initially, is a commitment freak, but ends up falling in love. Dulquer’s role is also on similar pages until, he falls for her. The movie broadly spoke of the taboo concept of living in with someone before marriage. While Mani Ratnam continues to startle us with his amazing stories, we would like him to introduce more and more cute couples on screen!
